IDenticard and Bioscrypt Harness the Synergy Between
Smart Cards and Biometrics

Lancaster, Pa. (Jan. 14, 2003) -- IDenticard, a leading producer of biometric security identification, asset tracking and access control systems, and Bioscrypt, Inc., a leading provider of advanced fingerprint technology, have teamed to meet the growing demand worldwide for the increased security provided by coupling smart cards with biometrics.  These industry leaders have paired IDenticard's IDentiSMART family of patented contactless smart card solutions with Bioscrypt's V-Smart -- an integrated MIFARE smart card and fingerprint reader for access control.

V-Smart interfaces with IDentiPASS, IDenticard's premier access security system, and accommodates the IDentiSMART family of contactless smart card solutions that use the MIFARE architecture platform.  When using V-Smart, the fingerprint template is stored on the IDentiSMART card, so there is no remote processing and no need to network the readers for managing the population of biometric templates.  To gain access to a secured door, the cardholder presents the smart card and places the appropriate finger on the reader.  V-Smart creates a template from the live fingerprint sample and compares it to the enrollment template stored on the smart card to verify identity before granting access.

The IDentiSMART/V-Smart solution provides simple, fast, accurate and private verification that the person using the card is its legitimate owner.  "Privacy is a critical issue in security today," said Schroeder.  "Because the template is written to the smart card, the user essentially owns that information and carries it with him or her."
